Long Time, No See

Hi, friends.

It’s been close to six years since I wrote here, a combination of login problems that I lacked the energy to try and fix, being mostly on other platforms, and spending all my writing energy on a novel. But for a time now, I’ve become increasingly tired of other platforms, with their echo chambers, stupid algorithms, and ever increasing amount of ads, missing the slower but deeper world of blogs, both writing my own and reading those of others. I will try this again, now that I managed to log in.

So, what has happened in these years? If you’ve followed me on Instagram you have a pretty good idea, but for any other potential readers, here’s a recap.

I was diagnosed with autism with a side of ADHD, and this AuDHD explains so many things in my life. I’ve since worked on making sense of how my brain works, and finding ways to work with it rather than against it. It’s a daily struggle, and though some aspects of it are enormously frustrating (to my other neurodiverse people – I see you), others are at the core of who I am (would I be this nerdy delight of a person without it?), so if I had the choice to change my brain for a neurotypical one, I don’t think I would.

We bought a house three years ago. It’s a farmhouse originally built in 1855, and though most of the land formerly belonging to it no longer does, we have a sizeable garden with lots of trees for which we are very grateful. We’re slowly fixing up both house and garden, between our respective jobs, caring for kids who have all reached the stage of going to different activities, and so on.

I’m still sewing, naturally, my usual mix of “historical air with a fairytale flair” clothes, a little truly historical here and there, and the occasional cosplay. I might do a few posts on some of the things I’ve made in the last few years. This is one of my current WIPs – an upcycle of a dress I made five years ago.

And, of course, my novel. That has been a great project to work on, and if I had not been paralysed by the daunting task of working out and financing an editor, formatting, cover artist, ISBN’s, printing, etc., it might have been published by now. But there was the thing with the AuDHD… While it is great for hyperfocusing on writing and editing, it’s been less great in these other respects. It’s still the plan to get this all done, though. I so much wish you to read my story. More on that later. In the meantime, I’m writing the sequel.

That is, I believe, the most important points from the past six years. Fingers crossed it won’t be another six years until next post.
